The captain's official game account:

St. Croix's defeat the Glencoe Brewers at Vollmer Field

An interesting match game of ball was recently played at Vollmer Field in Glencoe, Minnesota between the St. Croix Base Ball Club, of the Washington County Historical Society, and the home nine of Glencoe.

The St. Croix's traveled a great distance to play the match game, enduring several detours on their way to the beautiful burgh of Glencoe. Once arrived, the St. Croix's went right to work on the field.

Winning the opening coin toss done by game Umpire Mr. Thein, the St. Croix's selected to strike first and send the home town Brewers into the field. The large crowd that had gathered was excited to watch how base ball was meant to be played.

Quinten "Rock" Wittrock, of the St. Croix's was the first to strike. He made a clean base hit into the field. After Mr. Pfundstein was put out, Mr. Cagley, Mr. Ebnet, and Mr. Sjogren all made clean hits. Mr. Sjogren was put out at second base, but Mr. Hammer and Mr. Williams also made hits that helped the St. Croix's score three aces. Mr. Arpi, arriving from Sartell, Minnesota just before the start of the match, made the third out of the inning for the St. Croix's.

The Glencoe Brewers tallied one ace in their first. The St. Croix's tallied one ace in their next three at bats, four times in their fifth inning and two more in their sixth. The Glencoe nine tallied one in their fourth and one more in their seventh.

The final score of the match was the St. Croix's 12, Glencoe 3.

For the St. Croix's, Mr. Wittrock, Mr. Ebnet, Mr. Sjogren, Mr. Hammer and Mr. Peterson all tallied twice in the match with Mr. Williams and Mr. Cagley both with one tally each.

The festivities continued after the match game as the citizens of Glencoe treated the visiting St. Croix's to some fine refreshments and good food as Glencoe Days continued throughout the evening.
